Curriculum Vitae

Reinhard Gruber received his PhD from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (Vienna, Austria) in 1998. After a post-doctoral appointment at the Department of Rheumatology in 1999, he joined the Department of Oral Surgery at the Medical University Vienna and became Assistant Professor in 2002, attaining the rank of an Associate Professor in 2004. He is the co-director of the Curriculum Dentistry, and coordinates a lecture series for undergraduates as well as a doctoral program entitled “Bone and joint regeneration”. He was a visiting scientist at Bone Tissue Engineering Center (Prof. Hollinger) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 2004 and 2005. In 2008 he visited the Dental School (Prof. Giannobile) at the University of Michigan.

Reinhard Gruber has been involved in various projects of bone biology for over ten years. His current research interests is focused on the fundamental biological processes of bone regeneration specifically emphasizing physiological determinants such as aging and diabetes, and to increase effectiveness and efficacy of therapeutic designs for bone regeneration. Reinhard Gruber has published 55 original articles as first- and/or corresponding author and 14 as co-author in peer reviewed journals and contributed to 11 book chapters. In 2010 he became Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Stomatology and Occlusion Medicine and serves as a reviewer for major dental journals. His current research is supported by grants from the Austrian Nationabank, the ITI Foundation and the Osteology Foundation.
