The Osteology Foundation was established by Dr. Peter Geistlich, President of the Geistlich Group and the company Geistlich Pharma AG in Wolhusen, Switzerland. Geistlich is well known as the manufacturer of the bone substitute Bio-Oss and the natural collagen membrane Bio-Gide. Both products are frequently used for the treatment of bony defects around implants and teeth and for bone augmentation procedures.
Extensive research and clinical testing of its products has been a major concern of Geistlich Biomaterials. Since the beginning of the Nineties, Geistlich has provided financial support for a large number of scientific study projects on regeneration. Around 50 studies have been given direct backing in the last two years alone.

Why did Geistlich establish a Foundation? |

Geistlich wants to stay at the leading edge of regenerative implantology and periodontology with their biomaterials. Independent research is a challenge for a company but does provide an important impetus from outside and so stimulates new developments.
All 10 scientists on the Foundation’s advisory board are internationally recognised and have many years of experience with regenerative treatment methods. In keeping with the objective of the Foundation, they will support regenerative dentistry and so lead the way and set new trends and developments in an independent framework.“
