Research Academy

Recognizing that education is a key factor for the efficacy and success of basic research as well as for preclinical and clinical investigations, the Osteology Foundation aims to facilitate continuing education of both, researchers as well as dental professionals all over the world.
The Osteology Research Academy is specially designed to improve the knowledge and capabilities of the participant in oral and maxillofacial research. Hereby it is the goal of the Osteology Foundation to improve the research quality and to promote evidence based dentistry.
The modular concept of the Osteology Research Academy allows the selection of Core Modules for young investigators or Expert Modules for those researchers who want to get in depth hands-on training on certain areas of research.
The curriculum of the Core Module was carefully designed by the Curriculum Committee to meet the expectations, cover all important aspects and guarantee the learning success. The faculty consists of expert trainers of the Osteology research network as well as external partners from renowned institutions.

Course Objectives Core Module: This practical 5-day course will examine every aspect of planning and conducting research projects in regenerative dentistry. From critical assessment of existing literature through the systematic approaches for designing research protocols for preclinical and clinical research projects to strategies for successful publication and funding, the course will cover all issues which are important for researchers in the field. Young researchers will get a comprehensive overview and the experienced participant will get a better understanding, fill the gaps and have the chance to address open questions. The five days will be divided into lectures, practical problem-solving exercises and group discussions. A side program in the evenings will allow continuing the discussion but also to socialize and to build up the personal research network.

After completion of the Core Module you will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of research in oral medicine
  • Master the process from the posing of a scientific question to generating the answer
  • Choose a suitable in-vitro, preclinical or clinical research approach
  • Select the appropriate analytical tools
  • Conduct a preclinical or clinical study within a research group
  • Analyze and critically interpret acquired data
  • Effectively communicate findings and knowledge
