DGI/SEPA/Osteology Consensus Meeting Peri-implant Soft Tissues
43 leading experts from three organizations collaborated in a unique consensus meeting. The aim of the meeting was to review the scientific evidence available today and agree on clinical recommendations for the treatment of peri-implant soft tissues. During the three-day consensus meeting three working groups, lead by the organizing committee members Lisa Heitz-Mayfield and Mariano Sanz, covered the topics of “Peri-implant keratinized mucosa” (Chairs: Frank Schwarz and Mariano Sanz), “Peri-implant soft tissue thickness” (Chairs Ronald Jung and José Nart) and “Peri-implant buccal soft tissue dehiscence defects” (Chairs: Adrián Guerrero and Bilal al Nawas). The consensus conference was held on March 19–21st, 2022, at the Parador in the historic city of Alcalá de Henares, Spain.
XIII European Workshop on Periodontology
The XIII European Workshop on Periodontology was organised in collaboration between EFP and the Osteology Foundation and was chaired by Mariano Sanz (EFP) and Christer Dahlin (Osteology Foundation). It focused on the topic ‘Bone Regeneration’ and took place between 11–14 November 2018 in La Granja de San Ildefonso, near Segovia in Spain.
The 75 invited academics and researchers in periodontology and oral surgery from Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia were divided into four working groups that covered the following focal points:
Working Group 1 (co-chairs Tord Berglundh and William Giannobile): Biological factors involved in alveolar bone regeneration
Working Group 2 (Mariano Sanz and Christer Dahlin): Biomaterials and regenerative technologies
Working Group 3 (Maurizio Tonetti and Ronald Jung): Treatment of extraction sockets
Working Group 4 (Frank Schwarz and Søren Jepsen): Regeneration of alveolar-ridge defects
The workshop’s consensus papers and systematic reviews are now available in an open-access supplement of the EFP’s Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Follow the link below to access the content.
2nd Osteology Consensus Meeting
On 13 June 2017, the 2nd Consensus Meeting of the Osteology Foundation on the topic: Evidence based knowledge in the aesthetics and maintenance of peri-implant tissues, took place in Weggis, Switzerland.
In two groups under the chairmanship of Ronald E. Jung, Switzerland, and Frank Schwarz, Germany, the effects of hard- and soft-tissue augmentation procedures on the maintenance of peri-implant tissues, as well aesthetics of peri-implant soft tissues were discussed, and the outcome was summarized in three consensus reports. The reports have been published with open access in a supplement of Clinical Oral Implants Research, together with four systematic reviews that were done in preparation of the consensus meeting.
Proceedings of the 2014 AAP Regeneration Workshop
Enhancing Periodontal Health Through Regenerative Approaches
On June 1-4, 2014 the AAP organised an international consensus workshop, co-chaired by the Osteology Board members William V. Giannobile and Pamela K. McClain. The workshop was of huge interest to the Osteology Foundation and therefore supported with an educational grant.
The proceedings of this workshop are available with free access in a special supplement of the Journal of Periodontology:
10th European Workshop in Periodontology
Periodontal Plastic Surgery and Soft Tissue Regeneration
Sharing the same goals made teaming up an easy task for the EFP and Osteology Foundation when they jointly steered the 10th European Workshop in Periodontology to success in November 2013 in La Granja de San Ildefonso, Spain.
The proceedings of this workshop are available with free access in a special supplement of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology (JCP):
The key supplement delivers the full conclusions of working groups who reviewed research in the 10th European Workshop's designated field of Periodontal Plastic Surgery and Soft Tissue Regeneration.
6th Expert Meeting of the Osteology Foundation
“Linking Science with Practice” is the guiding principle of the Osteology Foundation. The 6th Osteology Expert Meeting, which took place in Zurich, Switzerland, in June 2011 was devoted to this motto. The aim of the meeting was to formulate statements and recommendations in the field of regeneration based on the current evidence.
