Brazilian dentists show great interest in regenerative therapies

The National Osteology Symposium Brazil took place in São Paulo on 25-26 August 2016. With 610 participants the symposium was completely sold out, and more than 70 people were on a waiting list. Particularly popular was the hands-on workshop by Istvan Urban.

The national chairman of the symposium, Maurício Araújo, said that he was excited that the scientific programme with national and international speakers attracted such a big crowd of interested people that also actively participated in discussions.

Workshops and Osteology Master Clinician Courses took place on the first day. The Osteology hands-on Workshop with Istvan Urban, Hungary, was sold out in very few days, and also the workshop by Geistlich, the Founding Partner of Osteology Brazil, with Arthur Belém Novaes Jr., Brazil, was full.

Those that had not managed to get hold of one of the limited seats in the workshop by Istvan Urban had the chance to attend his Master Clinician Course in the afternoon, as well as the one by Christoph Hämmerle, Switzerland, and Giulio Rasperini, Italy. The interest in the lectures by the three international speakers attracted a huge crowd, and the big auditorium was  packed to the rafters.

The excellent programme with renowned top-class Brazilian as well as international speakers on the second day of the symposium was also very popular, and the auditorium was again completely full. The topics of the excellent presentations covered all aspects of regenerative therapies. Small and large bony defects and their treatment were addressed as well as periodontal topics and soft tissue regeneration. Different approaches for the management of extraction sockets were debated in a round table discussion using selected cases. The auditorium actively contributed to discussions with questions and showed great interest.

An industrial exhibition accompanied the symposium and was also very well visited. Many people came to the information booth of the Osteology Foundation to learn more about the Foundation and its activities. Participants could take pictures at a photo booth and take them immediately home as a souvenir. The photos were sponsored by Geistlich Pharma do Brasil, and can be found on their Facebook page.

Osteology Brazil 2016 was a great success and one of the biggest National Symposia of the Osteology Foundation in South America so far. It demonstrated that there is great interest in regenerative therapies, and practitioners are eager to learn about the latest findings and relevant insights from research that can be transferred to practice.

In 2017 the Osteology Foundation will be back in Brazil with a session at the SOBRAPE congress in April, as well as a the Research Academy Core Module in September, which will be organised for the first time in Rio de Janeiro.

More pictures from the event will soon be available on the symposium pages on THE BOX.
