Launch of National Osteology Group Brasil at CONBRAPE

One of the most important collaborative education events of the Osteology Foundation this year was the Osteology Session during the XXVII CONBRAPE on 19 – 22 April 2017 in São Paulo. The periodontology congress of the Brazilian association was a great success, and also the Osteology Session, which was part of the main programme on Friday, attracted many visitors.

International speaker Daniel Thoma, Switzerland, and the two national speakers, João Batista César Neto and Mauricio Araújo, covered different topics of soft- and hard tissues regenerative therapies, and discussed with the moderators Giuseppe Romito and Cleverson Silva, the question “what are the key-factors for successful regenerative therapy outcomes?”

The joint session at XXVII CONBRAPE was also the launch event for the National Osteology Group Brasil, a novel online-based education initiative of the Osteology Foundation in Brazil that aims to provide education in oral regeneration therapies, as well as to be a platform for the exchange of information and discussions among dental practitioners who are already active or want to be active in this field.

João Batista Cesár Neto, chairman of this group, and his co-chairmen, Vítor Sapata, Cléverson Silva, and André Vajgel Fernandes, introduced the concept of the Osteology Group Brasil. They announced that in August there will be a webinar with Mariano Sanz, Spain, and there will also be ongoing presentations by national speakers, case discussions, and webinars covering all areas of oral tissue regeneration. A first annual meeting of the group will take place in São Paulo on 23 November 2017, with Frank Schwarz, Germany, as international speaker, and Mauricio Araújo giving a hands-on workshop.

The reactions to the new educational initiative of the Osteology Foundation in Brazil was very positive, and people showed great interest. The first sign-ups were observed already during the congress, and many participants also came to the Osteology booth in the industrial exhibition to learn more about it, and to meet the chairmen. The programme will now officially start in May.

The successful collaboration event also included a hands-on Osteology Workshop with Daniel Thoma on Saturday, which was well visited, and feedback from the participants was excellent. A big thank you to the organisers of CONBRAPE as well as the local Osteology network in São Paulo for their great support in all aspects.
