What began with a poster competition in Tokyo led to a journey across continents – and new connections along the way.
In September 2025, Shingo Sugeta joined the Osteology Symposium in Tokyo, where he presented his research in the poster competition. His work stood out, earning him the winning prize: a place at the Research Academy in Lucerne.

For Sugeta, research and clinical practice have long gone hand in hand. A graduate of Hokkaido University School of Dental Medicine, where he also completed his PhD, he now runs his own dental practice in Osaka. His clinical and scientific interests include implant dentistry, periodontal and peri-implant tissue management, GBR, and microsurgical techniques. He regularly shares his expertise at scientific meetings in Japan, with recent presentations focusing on topics such as ridge augmentation and soft-tissue management.
The Osteology Symposium Japan gave Sugeta not only the opportunity to present his work, but also to connect with the scientific chairs Ronald Jung and Atsushi Saito. Just months later, these connections continued in Lucerne.
At the Research Academy, Shingo deepened his knowledge of research design and methodology while connecting with leading researchers in oral tissue regeneration, including Anton Sculean, Frank Schwarz, Reinhard Gruber, Daniel Thoma, Ausra Ramanauskaite, and many more.
For us, this is what the Osteology community is all about: creating connections that extend beyond a single event, supporting young researchers and clinicians in their development, and bringing people together across countries and career stages. From Tokyo to Lucerne, and back to Osaka, Shingo’s journey is a wonderful example of how one Osteology encounter can open the door to the next.
