Tobias Fretwurst is a Professor and Oral Surgeon at the Department of Oral- and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at University of Freiburg, Germany. He received his DDS from University of Greifswald and his PhD from University of Freiburg (Germany). He completed Oral Surgery and Implantology Training at the University of Freiburg in 2017. He has served as an Osteology Research Fellow at the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA from 2016-2017 and served as a Visiting Professor of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, USA from 2022-2023.

He has produced over 50 manuscripts and textbook chapters focused on oral medicine, implantology and periodontology. His research is focused on hard and soft tissue oral reconstruction, peri-impantitis and personalized medicine. Tobias Fretwurst and his research group received numerous awards: e.g. Kurt-Steim-Prize, Research-Award German Association of Oral Implantology (DGI) for the best experimental study and the Oral Reconstruction Foundation Research Award (2. Prize). He is Member of the Board of the German Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In Freiburg he is involved in clinical patient treatment, research and education.
