Beyond Regeneration in Vienna
More than 2,400 participants from 70 countries around the world gathered in Vienna to explore what’s next in oral regeneration – and the International Osteology Symposium 2026 delivered on every level. With interactive learning, practical insights, hands-on workshops, and forward-looking technologies like artificial intelligence, the symposium reaffirmed its position as a leading global platform for dental professionals.
Designed for exchange and collaboration, the event brought together clinicians and researchers to discuss current challenges and future directions in oral regeneration. The scientific programme combined key topics tailored to periodontists, oral surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, and generalists with a focus on implantology. Through interactive sessions and case-based discussions, participants were able to refine their techniques and directly translate knowledge into clinical practice under expert guidance.
A standout feature of this year’s edition was the introduction of the new “re-live surgery” – a format established to place patient-centred treatment approaches at the forefront. Four clinical cases guided participants through different indications – from gingival recession coverage in the mandible and maxilla to sinus augmentation and GBR with implant placement. Each case began with the patient's situation and the supporting scientific evidence for the treatment plan, followed by a step-by-step narrated surgery. The sessions concluded with an in-depth discussion among the clinicians involved, evaluating one-year outcomes in relation to patient expectations and placing the patient perspective firmly at the centre of outcome measurement.
With 30% of participants being young clinicians under the age of 32, the programme combined a high-level scientific and clinical agenda led by world-renowned experts with a dedicated Next Gen stream tailored to their clinical reality – featuring representatives on stage alongside senior faculty, as well as targeted sessions and workshops designed specifically for early-career clinicians.
Beyond the scientific programme, networking remained a defining part of the symposium experience. New and established formats created multiple opportunities for exchange in both formal and casual settings. A Street Food Festival in the exhibition hall brought participants, industry representatives, and media partners together in a relaxed atmosphere, while the Osteology Night under the motto “Rock Me Amadeus” offered a lively setting for further connection. In addition, a dedicated Research Networking Day provided a platform for scientific dialogue and collaboration among invited researchers.
Innovation was another key theme throughout the event, with particular attention given to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and their potential to shape the future of oral regeneration. Tailored formats supported both experienced clinicians and early-career professionals, fostering guidance, professional development, and meaningful connections within a global community.
